finally available on wax, cv313 s classic -lost sequence- culled from the celebrated japan exclusive -live- double cd album released back in 2009. this was lovingly remastered by bazza @ alchemy mastering in london, paying close attention to every finite detail. this master has never sounded so good. on the b side there s a rare live version performed by intrusion at a loft event put on by the good folks over @ little white earbuds. this rare recording was reduced and stripped down, core traces of the original swim inside oceanic bass, and modulating frequencies creating an atmosphere all of its own. this is one for the heads.

dj ralf is the italian icon who runs the much loved laterra recordings label and management, and is now back with ‘er suonone’, a new track from margot that is all set to be a late summer smash. anyone who has heard the legendary dj ralf (a cult figure who has been the subject of a documentary, has played all over the world, runs his own legendary bella ciao party and holds a cult residency in cocorico) play recently will most likely have heard this track in his set, and it has been an unknown but much loved secret weapon for a while now. as such this one sided vinyl pressing will please many people who have been hunting it down. margot, of course, is an italian pair of accomplished producers who have released on, les disques de la mort, hell yeah and border community and run their own margot records label. ‘er suonone’ is a pumping, deep, slow burning bit of cosmic house that builds and builds and teasers listens without ever releasing the pressure. monstrous kick drums drive it down below, pixelated stabs add suspense in the distance and icy hi hats slither in the foreground. it’s the sort of track to drop right at the peak time and it will surely go right off, with people fist pumping along to the groove.

a sort of cabaret voltaire for the iphone age, drooids are a collective of three multimedia artists who produce electronic music using improvisational, often anarchic methods. utilizing a hodgepodge of gear both old and new, and not-wholly-quantized, they create a collage of sounds that verges on chaos before slipping back into a dark yet weirdly club-oriented beat. their live shows usually feature multiple guest collaborators, costumes, sculptural props and performative antics. for their debut release on lse we tried to capture the spirit of these shows and recorded over 11 hours of drooids improvising in the studio of the course of one week. those 11 sprawling hours then got edited down to these 4 snapshots, mastered and pressed in a limited edition of 200 (40 with original gelatin silver prints) for our 6th vinyl release.

it’s now pretty obvious that disco influence has not only been powerful in western clubs. it has also influenced musicians all around the world, and west-indies islands are no exception to the rule. indeed, at that time in the caribbean territories, local musicians and producers seized the sound of their us counterparts, and make it their own, melting-up disco, funk, and boogie (even early rap) elements with some more traditional or local styles. apart from some obvious titles which made it to the charts, very few was known on these productions until recently. from an initial pre-selection of 40 tracks, favorite recordings and waxist teamed up to narrow down the actual tracklist. with no pretention to be exhaustive, this selection represents a tiny sample of a broader ocean of quality caribbean disco/boogie tunes. favorite recordings & waxist are very happy and proud to bring back lights on some of these rare tunes.

chris carrier’s brings us the latest installment from his ever-trusty adult only label, with a firecracker from julian alexander, a rudeboy from holland, utrecht to be precise. julian’s close ties with slapfunk records, the label that released carrier’s most recent artist album, make him the perfect candidate to captain this new release, which is full of murky grooves and simmering energy. across three tracks julian brings encapsulates that adult only flavour, kicking off with ‘butress roots’ a bass-heavy roller with an eerie overtone and a minimal make-up – watch out for the extended breakdown, it will send shivers down your spine. up after that we have ‘xy’ a more up-tempo, bouncing, dance floor destroyer. major vibes on this one. on the flip ‘point of view’ brings the energy down again, with a steady flow, and a slow-building pads together with an indecipherable female vocal clip that adds to the captivating atmosphere. carrier steps in to remix ‘point of view, closing out the ep with a punchy demonstration of his production prowess. raw.

on his first release for droid recordings, master sound technician brian sanhaji drops two hard, gritty tracks. a1, * macronomena* , is an unmissable, surprising thrill. a filthy, grainy bass synth gets mangled by filters and lfo, pushed out of time, and forced back into a perfect, funky lock with the pummeling beat. nearly five minutes in, the machine breaks down and falls apart, only to slam back into groove with new, jack-oriented elements. b2, * synphone*, plays things straighter, manipulating the optimal gears and levers of the techno toolkit for an undeniable dance floor mover.

following up the fantastic summer re-release of upsetting keys “empathy” ep, path records follows with its first new catalogue number since 2006. path 008 marks the return of artist fate 258, whose 1999 “why 2k” path 001 ep has been a hotly sought after item on discogs. the three-track ep contains two exciting new mixes of cult classic techno track “the path”. the a-side version “path to hell” is the harder of the pair, a dark edgy journey into the unknown with shuffling 808 rhythms providing much of the melody. “path to heaven” slows the groove down and adds warm juno pads throughout the mix for a very deep detroit flavored techno style. on the final track “heaven or hell” sort of a broken beat downtempo piece, sparse vocals and bladerunner samples mix to complete the dystopian concept. these mixes of “the path” are considered pre-mixes, as they were completed in 1998 before the original release of path 001. fate 258 is a project from brooklyn producer reade truth, known for his work over the last decades on labels such as planet e, sonic groove, n-syde, wurst and strictly rhythm to name a few. limited to 250 worldwide, with the first 100 including full black and white cover art.

solimano returns to his unlock recordings imprint with two mellow house cuts, featuring a pair of imaginative reinterpretations from fellow argentinean’s barem and deep mariano. originally established to promote latin american productions in 2004, unlock recordings has since hosted the likes of jorge savoretti and guti. its founder, gonzalo solimano, has proven himself time again as a label owner, dj and producer, working as a ‘mr. x’ at red bull academy for almost ten years when not performing at the likes of creamfields buenos aires, south american music conference and space world tour. ‘learjet’ is a low-slung groover complete with organic samples, bass guitar licks and a hypnotically looped vocal sample. up first on remix duties, minus regular barem subdues the raw textures of the original to generate an understated rendition, whereas get slow founder deep mariano takes it down a percussive route where an infectious rhythm is accompanied by dub inspired synths. finally, ‘calling again’ is a sensual deep house cut featuring the vocals of sophie taylor, known for her collaboration with mathias kaden, among many others.

his career began in the mid 90s as part of 1st down, which consisted of phat kat on vocals and jay dee on production. the group was short lived however, possibly because of insufficient support/promotion from their label, payday, but the two continued to collaborate on many occasions afterwards, starting with an appearance on fat cat song and its remix, from slum villages fan tas-tic (vol. 1).

uk house veteran phil asher arrives on rekids with the latest project in his storied career, a collaboration with emergent london poet & musician james massiah. having chanced upon him a performance during a fiona bevan presents night at dalstons servants jazz quarters, asher immediately approached massiah about a possible collaboration: as soon as i heard james i knew i had to work with him. his poetry is infectious, textured & interesting. time & space took years to imagine but 25 minutes to write. it took james approximately the same amount of time to lay his poem down. asher approached matt edwards with the results, and the time & space ep was confirmed for release on rekids: two original cuts of futuristic house emboldened by massiahs electrifying street poetry, and a reprise version of the title track which steps away from the dancefloor to bring the lyrical content into sharper focus

ian blevins is from england but hes quite the dude. this is his first offering for the esp institute. on side a, meet the happy beast named hannibal, a big room tune that ticks every box your heart may desire bone dry drum production, atmospheric arpeggios, soaring strings and pads, a beautifully sweeping bass progression and an overall sense of euphoria goosebumps guaranteed. on side b, welcome aunt poly cools us down a little bit stripping back the instrumentation, minimizing any superfluous effects, and layering a sparse bassline and droning synths over a laidback 808 all to a relaxed tempo. blevins debut proves that from the right point of view, familiar elements and motifs can take on a new life whilst reminding us just how the rave can feel. these two songs will increase your serotonin levels.

after contributing a remix for our label in 2011 daniel stefanik now returns to raum with his first solo single under his new moniker dlsk.
the a side * sense of doubt* is a bit more stripped down and melodic, as the b side and also the title track of this release * subterraneans* is more of a jazzy house groove, that simply doesn’t stop rolling and keeps the tension with subtle variations and other nice little gimmicks. as always we truly hope that you enjoy these tracks as much as we do and we are happy to have daniel back on board as for sure he can be called one of germanys top notch producers.
